Their Story

&

In 1907 a young Swiss baker and confectioner, Fritz Butzer, who later changed his name to Fritz Belmont left his native Alps to travel to England with a dream of establishing his own business.
Following the end of World War 1, In 1919 his dream was realised when Bettys opened its doors for the very first time, on Cambridge Crescent, Harrogate just across from the current day location.

In 1962 Bettys purchased C.E. Taylor & Co – a Yorkshire-based café business and local tea and coffee merchant founded in 1886.

Still a Yorkshire family business to this day, they carry a passion for making life’s everyday treats even better and are the company behind Yorkshire Tea, Taylors of Harrogate tea, coffee and infusions, and of course the world famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms.
