Their Story

The world famous Oldest Sweet Shop first opened its doors in 1827 and is still selling and delivering quality traditional sweets and chocolates, almost 200 years later

Established in the historic and vibrant town of Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale - part of the Yorkshire Dales - The Oldest Sweet Shop began selling sweets and luxury chocolates, such as boiled sweets, toffees, herbal & spicy sweets originally prepared, boiled and made within the sweet shop.

Frequented by local mill owners, quarry workers and labourers building the local reservoirs and of course children, all spending their hard earned half penny, the shop became a corner stone of the local community, a town bustling with busy mills, quarries and breweries at the height of the industrial revolution.

Nearly two centuries on, the shop with many original fixtures and fittings features regularly in the media, including high profile newspapers, magazines and TV programmes.

The Oldest Sweet Shop online has been delivering old fashioned sweets, retro sweet jars & luxury chocolates for over a century and now online for over a decade. They pride themselves on the quality of our confectionery which is still made to the original recipes dating to the 19th century (boiled in copper pans, the way sweets should be made) they have an unsurpassed knowledge of sweets and chocolates, gained from nearly two centuries of trading experience. Importantly they still retain the traditional business values of yesteryear which are today often lost.

They only source the finest products whether that is a black jacks, a pear drop (guaranteed to taste like a proper pear drop!) or the finest box of chocolates -they  do not compromise on quality!
